Plasticity Labs case study

Graphic & UX Designer

A happy job

Plasticity Labs was a platform that analyses a company's employee happiness and engagement on different levels. The platform integrates behavioural training, a survey engine and an analytics engine. Plasticity was based around making every person happier - and using science to do it. This position was a fantastic fit for me, as I am a person who believes that positivity in your work creates better work. Plasticity not only gave me the opportunity to create something exciting as a student, but the team's infectious happiness bled into my life - making me a happier and more grateful person today.

Through my time at Plasticity, my role quickly evolved from Graphic Designer to be UX and UI designer. The team provided me with invaluable opportunities to learn and grow within the company.

Plasticity Labs shut their doors in 2020.

My work

What I created at Plasticity was vast. I wore many hats as the only designer on the team. I created collateral materials such as posters or social media graphics. I also worked to create scalable templates for the Founders to use for presentations. As I leaned more into the UX space, I worked with the engineering team to understand product requirements and created UX solutions and provide wireframes or pixel-perfect high-fidelity designs to assist their production. Other times, I would do odd jobs like finding stock images for our LMS system, creating social media banners, or helping our video designer with graphics. In a start-up, you get to learn a lot of skills on the job. That will be an experience I will be forever grateful for.

 Plasticity insights

I helped the team develop (what was at the time) a new feature to Plasticity's platform. It was an insights platform that analysed survey data and provided ability to self-serve survey release to the partner's employees. I worked directly with engineering to create the wireframing and flows and then produced high-fidelity designs to allow them to develop the system. This was a cross-platform initiative and it allowed to me design for multiple clients (mobile and web).

Onboarding

As Plasticity grew, we needed an automated way to get customers on the platform without 'human' help. I worked to find a wizard-like solution for users to go through to teach them about the platform and provide a incentive for profile completion. This project required a lot of research and understanding of business goals, platform features and partner preference. We wanted a scalable onboarding solution. I create a walk-through process for new users to go through that required them to input multiple pieces of information and 'gamify' the experience.

User profiles

As a internal social platform in companies, we wanted not only the opportunity for individuals to use Plasticity to talk with others, but to make connections with co-workers. A key part of this is a profile for employees. Having the ability to share information about themselves and create connections in their workplace. This initiative created multiple other work streams for CTAs in the platform (i.e. Joe also likes cats... check out his profile!). A sub-project also emerged - a people directory. The ability to go through other employees in a directory and explore profiles.
